Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet Review

Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet

Hey Dreamers and Creators!

Have you tried a snail mask yet? If so, do you remember which mask it was and if not, would you want to try one? My first snail secretion filtrate mask wasn't that great of an experience but I've since tried other snail masks that offers much better results. This Mask Monday we are talking about the Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet.

The Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheets are fairly popular and it was actually shown briefly on the Today show. I actually knew of it before but never got around to trying it until early this year. I have mixed feelings about this mask and due to good reasons. I think it could be a wonderful mask if they could just remove that one ingredient. Anyways, let's get to know the mask.

the individual sheet mask

Packaging: Each box of the Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet comes with 5 masks. The box has instructions, ingredients, etc. in English while the individual masks has these information mostly in Korean. The packaging looks simple at first, but if you look closely, the pattern on the box is actually words that say 'Hydro Fitting Mask Sheet' with symbols of snail, starfish, seaweed, flask, leaf, and seashells. Each box of masks also comes with a small sticker seal on top. The manufacturing date of the masks can be found on the box or on the back of each individual mask.

Scent: This mask has a strong scent. It smells like floral fragrance mixed with baby powder scents and alcohol. Fragrance is added to this product, so it might not be suitable for those sensitive to fragrances.

Color: The essence is colorless and the mask sheet is white.

Texture: The essence felt like a serum, a bit thicker than the usually sheet mask essence. The mask felt soft to the touch. It's easily tear-able, so it can be adjusted to fit the face.

My Thoughts: I was wary about this mask at first because alcohol is the 5th ingredient on the list. For me, some products that contain alcohol can irritate my skin. Usually this happens with products that has alcohol as one of the first 3 ingredients but it can also happen with products that list alcohol later on (though less likely). This Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet has alcohol as its 5th ingredients, so it was enough to warn me for some extra cautious patch tests.

I started my patch tests the usual way but extended the testing period of each step. When I patch tested on my both of my wrists, one of them turned a bit red. Uh oh, I thought. However, when I re-tested a couple of hours later in the same spots, nothing happened. So I decided to press on with my patch tests until I got to the first full face test. The full face test went nicely for the most part. The mask felt a bit tingly for the first few seconds but then the feeling was gone. I was worried about it causing redness and when I first applied the mask it did look like my skin was turning a bit red. However, when I went back to look at it after 5 minutes the redness was gone. Odd, huh?

I've used this mask a couple of times since and most of the time it hasn't caused any issues. It did irritate my skin a bit on my 4th use of the mask, so I was a bit meh about it. I really love the hydration it provides to my skin. The mask leaves my skin soft and smooth. It also makes my skin feel a bit plump, which is nice. The sheet mask also fits nicely on my skin. It's easily tear-able, so I can adjust it to fit my face. It also comes with attached eye masks, should one want to use it, but I just used it for the under eye areas. One thing I didn't like about the mask though is its strong fragrance. The scent is strong and the alcohol scents made the overall scent really unpleasant.

Pros:
-moisturize
-soften
-hydrate
-add plumpness
-provides nutrients

Cons:
-strong fragrance, might not be suitable for everyone
-contains alcohol, might not be suitable for those sensitive to alcohol

My Rating: ❤ ❤

Final Thoughts: I was excited to test out this mask until I saw its ingredient list and took a whiff. The mask isn't bad and I'm glad that it didn't break me out. It did irritated my skin a bit at first and on my 4th use but it was okay for the other times. The scent of this mask was a big put off for me. The floral notes and baby powder mix smells nice but the alcohol scent totally ruined it for me. I did like that the mask is able to moisturize, soften, hydrate, provide nutrients and add plumpness.

Will I repurchase it in the future? I don't think so. While the mask is good and provided some nice skincare properties. It also has some downsides too. Alcohol is the major deal breaker here. The scent is too strong and the potential of it irritating my skin again is something I can do without. I think this would have been a great mask if they just remove the alcohol ingredient. Do I think this mask is worth a try? Well, if you aren't sensitive to alcohol and fragrance, you can give this mask a try.
