Dearberry Coco's Secret Recipe Pumpkin Wash-Off Mask Pack Review

Dearberry Coco's Secret Recipe Pumpkin Wash-Off Mask Pack Review

Hey Dreamers and Creators!

Here's the belated Mask Monday review. It took quite a while to translate everything again, however, I was happy once I finished. I was also happy that my laptop actually saved it this time.

Anyways, I thought I'd review the Dearberry Coco's Secret Recipe Pumpkin Pack since it's almost Halloween and all. Pumpkins are quite popular during Halloween and the fall seasons, so it made sense to review this now. I got this mask pack in the Pumpkin Pie Cosmetics Memebox early this year. I actually started to patch test and use this pack early in the year too and waited for a perfect time to share it with everyone. Let's get to it!

packaging part 2

Packaging: This pumpkin wash-off mask comes in some cute packaging. Its orange color theme matches that of a pumpkin and its got an adorable kitty mascot holding a pumpkin on the lid. I'm guessing here that the cat on the lid is Coco and this mask pack is her secret recipe. It's really cute. The overall look gives off a playful and whimsical feel to it.

Scent: I was hopping this mask pack would smell like yummy pumpkin pie or something. Unfortunately, the scent of this mask is not pumpkin pie like. It's not even pumpkin like, actually its far from it. For me, the mask has a floral soap like scent. Think Dove bar soap but with more of a pleasant floral scent to it. It's got a low note of something not quite clay like but not quite metal like either. I'm going to assume that the floral fragrance I'm picking up was added to the mask to cover whatever that other scent is.

Texture: I was really intrigued by the texture of this mask. When I first opened the pack, I thought it would be a clay mask like texture because it looked like a clay mask. However, when I dipped my spare spatula in, I was like *whoa*. The wash-off mask has a jelly-mousse like texture. Totally did not expect that. It's super easy to spread and quite fun to use.

Color: A creamy orange-yellowy color. Kind of like pumpkin pie filling actually, but just a bit more yellow.

My Thoughts: Ah, where do I begin? I have so much to share about this mask.

When I first opened this mask to try, I had thought I would like it a lot. Not sure why I thought that way. This is actually my first skincare product with pumpkin as a main ingredient, so I think I was excited about that. However, after trying it out, I realize it's not as awesome as I hopped it would be.

As with every new product, I started with my patch test. The test took was a little under one month's time. It did not cause me any break outs or irritations, which was nice. Through my patch tests, I found certain things about the mask that I like, but also a whole lot about it that just didn't sit well with me.

a big scoop of the wash-off mask

This wash-off mask is great at brightening the skin. Like super great. Like omg I can't believe that just happened great. My patch tests always consists of me testing on my wrist and back of the hands first. When I patch tested the mask on the back of one of my hands, I couldn't believe what I saw after I washed the mask off. There was very noticeable brightening effects on the back of my hand. When I put my hands side by side for comparison, it was like 1 and some shade lighter than the other hand. I was shocked and amazed.

The brightening effect is definitely there and the longest it's lasted me was about a day, which is pretty darn good. My Skin also feels super clean after I used the mask pack. It's like it cleansed all the excess sebum out of my pores.

mask pack spread out on the back of my hand

Unfortunately, this is where the wash-off mask pack takes a fall. Since it cleanses so well, it actually leaves the skin feeling super dry. It felt like the mask stripped off everything, the good and the bad. I had to use extra sleep packs and mist to battle the dryness left behind by the mask. (I have combo to oily skin by the way.) While I like that the mask leaves that squeaky clean feeling. The overly drying it causes the skin is just too much to handle.

The scent of this mask is another issue. It's not so much so that it doesn't smell like pumpkin (although that was disappointing), it's more that it's got a metallic/clay like scent that lies under the floral fragrance. The mixed scents aren't super pleasing. If you are sensitive to scents, this might be an issue.

The biggest downside about this mask is the left over residue. It's actually a lot harder to wash everything off when using this mask than expected. You might think that it's just like any other regular wash off masks on the market. However, it leaves behind mask residues like no other.

The first time I noticed was when I had washed off the mask pack before trying to apply toner with my cotton pad. My cotton pad turned yellow-orange. Yup, yellow-orange like the mask. At first I thought I had missed a spot of my face but when I looked at the mirror I didn't find anything. To be safe, I washed my face again with a warm and wet wash cloth. When I tried to apply toner again, that same yellow stain was there again. And before you ask, no it isn't my toner causing the issue. I tried the mask multiple times after and each time I'd find yellow mask residue left behind. I find the best way to remove is to use wash cloth and cotton pad with toner to repeatedly sweep over the face until there are no residues left. I was not happy with this.

Pros:
-brightening
-cleanse thoroughly
-inexpensive

Cons:
-strong fragrance
-leaves residues
-leaves the skin feeling super dry

My Rating: ❤ ❤

Final Thoughts: I really wish I could like this mask because I've had luck with other Dearberry products in the past. However, it seems like this mask pack is not for me. I absolutely love the brightening effects this mask offers. If it didn't have any of those cons, I would rate this with lots of hearts because it's super inexpensive too. However, the Cons are just too great and outweighs the Pros. The biggest down side for me was the residue left behind by the mask each time. You have to really scrub and rub over and over to get it all off, which makes it abrasive on the face. The mask also drys the skin and has very strong fragrances, which might not be suitable for everyone.

Would I repurchase this product in the future? Probably not. Do I think this product is worth trying? I think if you are looking for instant brightening effects that lasts and cannot find another product that can provide those properties, then this wash-off pack might be your best bet. However, I have a feeling there are better products on the market.

Until next time!

Michelle
